Education: Yale University (B.A. 1973, magna cum laude); University of Chicago (M.A. in Philosophy 1976); University of Virginia School of Law (J.D. 1979, Order of the Coif, top 10% of class).

Biography: Mr. Naka started his practice as a judicial clerk for the administrative law judges at the Civil Aeronautics Board in Washington, D.C. In 1980, he joined Piper & Marbury in Baltimore, Maryland as an associate specializing in commercial and consumer financing. In 1985, Mr. Naka, joined Gebhardt & Smith, also in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was a partner until 1995, when he left to start Naka, Huttar & Oldhouser, LLP.

Mr. Naka represents numerous local, regional and national financial institutions in all aspects of commercial and consumer lending. His practice includes closing and resolving sophisticated loan transactions, with an emphasis on acquisition, development, construction and term financing for both residential and income producing real estate, as well as middle market corporate financing in the Baltimore/Washington region. His practice also includes drafting form (shelf) loan documents and developing documentation policies and procedures manuals for use by bank employees in middle market and small business lending.

Mr. Naka has testified as an expert witness on Maryland real property financing issues. He has drafted Maryland legislation and testified in support of it before the Maryland General Assembly, and provided comments on bills drafted by others to legislative committees.

Mr. Naka has chaired the Real Estate Discussion Group of the Real Property Section of the Maryland State Bar Association (1990 and 1991), as well as the Consumer Credit Committee of the Corporations, Business and Banking Section of the Maryland State Bar Association (1984), and has lectured extensively on construction lending, title insurance, preparation of loan documents, real property foreclosures and a variety of other issues relating to real estate financing.
